Shuowen Jiezi (Shuowen): Kelan is the name of a mountain. It is situated near Taiyuan and contains the Wowa Pool, known for producing fine horses. It is also the name of a prefecture. Originally the residence of the Loufan King, it belonged to the Taiyuan region during the Han Dynasty, and Lanzhou Prefecture was established there during the Later Wei Dynasty. It also refers to the moist mist rising within mountains.
