According to the Tang Yun (Tangyun), Ji Yun (Jiyun), and Yun Hui (Yunhui), the phonetic notation is lǚ zhāng qiè, pronounced the same as liáng. The Zheng Yun (Zhengyun) indicates that this character is interchangeable with the variant form pronounced liáng. The Yun Hui explains that a slight cold is called liáng. "Liáng is the killing power of winter" — Book of Han (Hanshu). A note by Yan Shigu states that liáng means thin or meager. According to the Tang Yun, Ji Yun, and Yun Hui, the phonetic notation is lǚ zhāng qiè, and in the Zheng Yun it is lóng zhāng qiè, pronounced the same as liáng.
