According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced lan. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), pronounced lan. An implement used to store crossbow arrows, which a person carries on their back.
As stated in the Book of Han (Hanshu), Biography of Han Yanshou: When Han Yanshou served as the Administrator of Dong Commandery, he ordered the cavalry and war chariots to form battle formations on all sides; soldiers wore armor and helmets, mounted their horses, and held their crossbows while carrying their lan.
Annotation: Lan is a container for crossbow arrows. Its shape resembles a wooden barrel.
It is also a place name. As stated in the Book of Han (Hanshu), Treatise on Geography: There is a Wulan County in Zhangye Commandery.
