According to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), the pronunciation is lan. According to the Categorized Dictionary (Leipian), this is the name of a tree, similar to the cassia. This was originally written as the character for magnolia. In the Poem of the Encounter (Lisao) by Qu Yuan, it is written: In the morning I plucked magnolias from the slopes. Additionally, in the Records of Strange Things (Shuyiji) by Ren Fang, it is noted that the Magnolia Islet is situated in the Xunyang River; it is named for the abundance of magnolia trees found there.
Textual research: In the Poem of the Encounter (Lisao) by Qu Yuan, the original text reads with the character for lán. Following the original text, the character for lán has been corrected.
