Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) reads: Pronounced kou (level tone). Classified Chapters (Leipian) cites the Pulse Secrets (Maijue) by the Xu family, which states: When pressure is applied, the pulse disappears; when pressure is lifted, it returns; a pulse that is firm on the sides but hollow in the middle is called kou.
