According to the Sound Compendium (Jiyun), this is the same as the character for knocking. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), this refers to the sound of stones striking one another. It is also the name of a place, Xieke. According to the History of the Northern Dynasties (Beishi), Biography of Li Can, the Song generals Zhang Yong and Shen Youzhi and others previously stationed their troops at Xieke.
It is also pronounced qi (falling tone). According to Sima Xiangru, Rhapsody on the Sir Fantasy (Zixu Fu): The stones collide, making a clashing sound.
It is also pronounced he (entering tone). According to Yang Xiong, Rhapsody on the Feathered Hunt (Yulie Fu): The thunderous sound of a crash.
