Pronounced kuò. The name for the spawn of a frog. According to the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen Jiezi), those that carry a shell on their back are called snails, while those without a shell are called slugs. In the Materia Medica (Bencao), it is also called lingli, tuotaichong, or nitichong. Tao Hongjing stated: Slugs do not have shells and should not be confused with snails. The term fuwo refers to the snail.
