In the Strategies of the Warring States (Zhanguoce): striking forward and kicking backward.
In the Commentary on the Biography of Zhang Yi from the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji): this refers to the front feet of a horse striking forward and the rear feet kicking backward. Jue refers to the hind feet digging into the ground, describing the swift gait of a horse.
In the Biography of Ban Gu from the History of the Later Han (Houhanshu): to chase the traces by following the galloping path.
