Pronounced jue.
According to the Shuo Wen Jie Zi (Shuowen), it refers to a torch made of reeds.
In the Zhuangzi, it is written: As the sun and moon rise, the small torch does not yet extinguish.
In the Lu Shi Chun Qiu (Lushi chunqiu), it is written: When Tang obtained Yi Yin, he performed a disaster-averting ritual at the ancestral temple, igniting torches and smearing the blood of sacrificial animals onto ritual vessels.
According to the Jiyun, it is sometimes written in variant forms (jiao), (chuo), or (lian). Note: According to the Guangyun, Jue and Jiao are explained separately, which differs from the Jiyun.

According to the Tang Yun Zheng, in the Lushi chunqiu, the term Jue fire is written as Jiao fire.
