According to Tang Rhyme (Tang yun), pronounced jue. According to Collection of Rhymes (Jiyi), Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui), and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced jue.
Shuowen Jiezi says: originally written as the character pronounced jiao, meaning to gnaw.
Jade Chapters (Yupian) says: to bite or chew.
History of the Later Han (Hou Hanshu), Treatise on the Five Elements: The term "chewing and chewing again" refers to the practice of forcing others to drink alcohol in the capital.
Collection of Rhymes (Jiyi) says: sometimes written in a variant form.
Also, according to Tang Rhyme (Tang yun) and Collection of Rhymes (Jiyi), pronounced qiao. According to Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced qiao. Same as the character pronounced jiao.
