Zi Collection, Page Position: Lower Radical: Power (lì) Jìang; Kangxi strokes: 13; Page: 149, entry 08 In Tangyun (Tángyùn), it is read with the qie spelling qí liǎng, and in Jiyun (Jíyùn), with the qie spelling jù liǎng, pronounced as the rising tone of qiáng. Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén Jiězì) explains it as: to compel, to force. Guangyun (Guǎngyùn) explains it as: to pursue, to exert all effort. Also, in Jiyun, it is read with the qie spelling qú liáng, with the same pronunciation as qiáng. The meaning is the same. Also, in Jiyun, it is read with the qie spelling jǔ liǎng, with the same pronunciation as qiǎng (from the character 繦). In this sense, Jìang means to resist forcefully.
