Sometimes also written in a variant form. According to the Manual of Incense (Xiangpu), Xian incense is of the same category as agarwood, and its recipes all utilize Xian. The Record of the Sea of Cinnamon (Guihaizhi) records it as Jian incense, and the Account of Southern Plants (Nanfang Caomu Zhuang) records it as Zhan incense; in truth, they are the same character.
