Commentary: Also known as zhiyi, belonging to the tiger and leopard family.
Sun Mian says: The hu resembles a leopard but is smaller. The waist and above are yellow, and below is black. It is shaped like a dog and eats macaques; commonly known as yellow-waist.
Records of Shu (Shu Zhi): The yellow-waist beast has the body of a weasel and the head of a leopard cat; when it grows, it eats its mother. Although small in size, it can eat tigers, oxen, and deer.
