Archaic form. Pronounced han (falling tone). A river name. Book of Documents (Shangshu): From Mount Bozhong, the Yang River is guided to flow east, where it becomes the Han River.
Also, the Milky Way. Erya: Between the Winnowing Basket and Dipper constellations lies the crossing of the Han. Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji): The Han is also the dispersed energy of metal. Physical Theory (Wulilun) by Yang Quan: The Han is the essence of water. Book of Odes (Shijing): Great is that cloud-river.
Also, Hanzhong, a commandery name, established by King Hui of Qin. Geography Record (Guangyuji): Now it is Hanzhong Prefecture.
