It is the same as the character pronounced hui. In the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is the original form of the character pronounced mei. It refers to washing the face. As noted in the Book of Rites (Liji), Inner Chapters (Neize), if the face is dirty, heat the washing water and wash it clean. Also in the Jade Table (Yuzao), it refers to washing the hair with millet water and the face with grain water.
