Pronounced huai. According to the Jade Chapter (Yupian), it is an alternative name for the locust tree. According to the Erh Ya (Erya), in the section on trees, the huai tree has large leaves of a deep color.
Also pronounced hui. The meaning is the same.
Also pronounced kui. According to the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing), on Zhongqu Mountain, there is a tree resembling the flowering crabapple, with round leaves and red fruit the size of a quince; it is named huai, and consuming it can increase one's strength.
According to the Compendium of Materia Medica (Bencao Gangmu), huai incense is the same as the douluopo incense mentioned in the Shurangama Sutra (Lengyanjing).
