It is also written in a variant form (chunyu). It is incorrectly written as jiangyu. According to the Erya (Boya), it refers to the end of a sword hilt. According to the Regional Speech (Fangyan), the end of a sword hilt is called yu, or also called dui. According to the Supplement to the Dictionary (Zihuibu), a bo-yu is a rice bowl used by Buddhist monks. In A New Account of Tales of the World (Shishuo Xinyu), Wang Meng and Liu Tan went to listen to Zhi Daolin lecture on the sutras. Wang Meng said to Liu Tan: The person who was just sitting on the high seat is inherently an inauspicious person, and he has gone to the east to listen as well. Wang Meng also said: He is merely a person like Wang or He who stands behind the rice bowl.
