Hai Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Horse (mǎ) Hua Kangxi strokes: 22 Page 1444, Entry 01 Guangyun (Broad Rhymes of the Guangyun): Pronounced hua. Jiyun (Collected Rhymes of the Jiyun), Yunhui (Collection of Rhymes), and Zhengyun (Correct Rhymes) all record the same pronunciation. Yupian (Jade Chapters): Hualiu refers to a fine horse. It was one of the eight steeds of King Mu of Zhou. See the detailed entry for the character liu. Also written in a variant form. Liezi (Book of Master Lie), chapter on King Mu of Zhou: On the right it was harnessed to a Liu horse and on the left to a Luer horse. See the cross-reference in the Grass radical section.
