Book of Odes (Shijing), Minor Odes: The green caterpillar has young, and the potter wasp carries them away.
Commentary: The potter wasp is the same as the pǔlú.
Lu Ji’s Annotation: It is shaped like a bee but has a thinner waist; it captures mulberry worms and takes them to a tree hollow, where they transform into its young after seven days.
Model Sayings (Fayan) by Yang Xiong: When a green caterpillar’s larva dies and is found by a potter wasp, the potter wasp prays over it saying: Be like me, be like me. After a long time, it becomes like it.
