Tang Dynasty Rhymes (Tangyun) and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun) indicate the pronunciation is ju (rising tone). Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) indicates the pronunciation is ju (rising tone). Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui) indicates the pronunciation is ju (rising tone). According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it is a type of tree. Xu states that it is the cabinet willow, a tree with large leaves. According to the Erya (Erya), it is the cabinet willow. The commentary notes it resembles a willow, and its bark can be boiled to make a drink. Furthermore, the Classic of Mountains and Seas (Shanhaijing) states that on Square Mountain there is a green tree called the cabinet-grid pine. Also, according to the Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), in the commentary on the official in charge of housing, it is a cabinet-receptacle, a device for collecting water. It is also the name of a town. According to the Former Han Dynasty Geography Treatise (Qianhan dilizhi), it belonged to Langye Commandery. Also, according to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced ju (rising tone). Also pronounced ju (falling-rising tone). The meaning is the same. Sometimes also written in a variant form (ju).
