Collected Rhymes (Jiyun): Pronounced dīng. A type of sore or boil.
Medical texts (Fangshu) state there are thirteen varieties of furuncles. For red-thread furuncles, one should immediately use a needle to pierce and break the swelling. For painful cases, take chrysanthemum leaves, crush them into a juice, and apply it to the affected area. In winter, using the roots of the chrysanthemum provides the same effect.
