In the Jade Chapters (Yùpiān), it is a bow cover, also known as a sheath.
In the Book of Rites (Liji), monthly ordinances, it is recorded to carry the bow.
In the Shàoyí (a chapter of the Book of Rites), one should hold the bow with the left hand, bending the sheath and grasping the grip.
In the Ceremonial Rites (Yílǐ), audience rites, one rides in a black carriage, carrying a dragon-patterned flag and a bow. The commentary states a bow cover is called dú.
Also in the Book of Rites (Liji), Míngtáng Wèi, it mentions carrying the bow and sheath. The commentary states that the bow is a banner, and its cover is called dú.
