Chen Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Tree (mù) Entry: 梪 Kangxi Stroke Count: 11 Page 530, Entry 14 Pronounced dou (falling tone). In the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is noted that the pronunciation is the same as the character for bean (dou). In the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), it is noted that the term for ritual offering vessels, bian-dou, is sometimes written in a variant form (dou). It is a vessel from ancient times used for holding meat. The Jade Chapter (Yupian) defines it as referring to pickled vegetables and meat pastes presented as offerings. A wooden vessel of the bean type is called a dou. Additionally, in the Progressive Refinement (Boya), it states that ten units make one sheng, and four sheng make one dou. There is also the du-dou, which is the name of a tree. In the Miscellany of the Western Hills (Youyang Zazu), it is written that the du-dou tree is found on Mount Yingzu, south of Dunqiu. This tree grows over ten zhang tall, with bark that is blue-green, smooth, and resembles flowing jasper. Its branches and trunks stand erect, its fruit resembles colorful bags, and its leaves resemble the mirror of the Wang clan.
