Pronounced dian. In the Collected Rhymes (Guangyun), the Standard Rhymes (Zhengyun), and the Rhyme Collection (Yunhui), it is defined as a door bolt. Sometimes written in a variant form. As mentioned in Discourse on Furthering Scholarship (Jinxue Jie) by Han Yu: door pivot, door sill, door bolt, door wedge. Also, in the Collected Rhymes, pronounced dian (falling tone), referring to an object used to secure or prevent movement. In the Family Instructions of Mr. Yan (Yanshi Jiaxun), it is noted that this character is used interchangeably with the character for a bolt (yi).
