You Collection, Lower Volume Radical: Wine (yǒu) Page 1280, Entry 04 Pronounced dǐng. According to the Shuo Wen Jiezi (Shuowen Jiezi), mingding refers to being intoxicated. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), mingding describes extreme intoxication. The Children’s Song of Xiangyang says, One returns home collapsed at sunset, utterly intoxicated and aware of nothing. Also, according to the Collection of Rhymes (Yunhui), it is commonly written as a variant form (tīng). In the Book of Jin (Jinshu), the Biography of Shan Tao uses the variant form (míngtīng).
