According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), pronounced bao. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced bao. A small melon.
In the Erya (Erya), section on grasses: A die is called a bao, and the vine that connects it is called a shao. The commentary notes: Common parlance calls the bao melon a die; shao refers to the connection of the melon vine. It also produces fruit, but it is as small as a bao.
Also the name of a plant. In the Erya, section on grasses: A bao has nine leaves. The sub-commentary explains: This plant grows nine leaves in a cluster on a single stem.
According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced pu. The meaning is the same.
