When Xie was enfeoffed in Shang, King Tang first resided in Bo. Huangfu Mi states: The State of Liang possesses three locations known as Bo. Southern Bo is located in Gushu. This is the capital of King Tang of Shang. Northern Bo is in the Meng territory, which is Jingbo. The location where King Tang of Shang received the Mandate of Heaven, Yanshi, is Western Bo, which is the place where Pan Geng moved his capital. Comprehensive Annotations (Tongya) records: Gushu County of Song Prefecture is present-day Kaocheng County of Guide Prefecture. Kaocheng County presently contains Boyue, along with Great Meng City and Small Meng City. Zhang Benqing states: When King Tang of Shang moved his capital to Southern Bo, it was to Guide Prefecture. Bo is sometimes written in a variant form (bo). Xunzi (Xunzi), Discussion on Military Affairs chapter, states: In ancient times, King Tang of Shang relied on the Bo territory to rise. The annotation states: Bo is the same as Bo. History of the Former Han (Qian Hanshu), Treatise on Geography, records: Shanyang Commandery contains Bo County. The annotation states: King Tang of Shang resided in Bo. Explanation of Words and Phrases (Shuowen Jiezi) states: Bo is the name of a pavilion in Duling, Jingzhao. This refers to yet another location called Bo. Also, Book of Documents (Shangshu), Establishment of Government, records: The administrator of the slopes of the three Bo regions. The commentary explains this in the same manner as Huangfu Mi. Kong Anguo states: There were three locations where the people of the Bo region submitted to King Wen of Zhou; officials were appointed for them, hence they were called the three Bo. Also, Broad Rimes (Guangyun) records: Bo is the name of a state. It was a place name during the Spring and Autumn period, Qiao County of Pei Commandery during the Han dynasty, Southern Yanzhou during the Jin dynasty, and Bo Prefecture during the Northern Zhou dynasty.
