According to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced zi. It refers to a bed. According to the Dialects (Fangyan) by Yangzi, in the regions of Chen and Chu, a bed is called a zi. Also, according to the Expanded Rhyme Dictionary (Guangyun), pronounced zi, and according to the Collection of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced zi. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it refers to a bed mat. According to the Literary Expositor (Erya), in the section on utensils, a mat is called a zi. The commentary notes that it is a bed board. The commentary to the Xunzi states that a zi is a bed frame. According to the Rites of Zhou (Zhouli), in the Ministry of Rites, the Jade Treasury manages the king's sleeping mats and bed zhen-zi. According to the Zuo Commentary (Zuozhuan), in the twenty-seventh year of Duke Xiang, Zhao Meng said: Words spoken in the privacy of the bedchamber should not pass beyond the threshold.
