Yin Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Mountain (shān) Zong Kangxi strokes: 12 Page 316, Entry 22 Pronounced zong. Jiuzong is the name of a mountain located at the mouth of the Gukou valley in Fengyi. The Commentary to the Treatise on Geography in the Book of Han (Hanshu) records that it is located within the territory of Liquan County. In the Rhapsody on the Western Capital (Xidu fu) by Ban Gu, it is mentioned that one passes over the Qin Mountains in the front and straddles Jiuzong in the back. Furthermore, in a poem by Fan Yong, it is stated that this unique mountain is called Jiuzong, which appears in the local records of Xiaogan County and is also known as Mount Jiuzong. In the Treatise on Commanderies and Kingdoms (Junguo zhi), it is written as a variant form (zōng). Additionally, a mountain where peaks gather together is called zong. In the Rhapsody on a Royal Hunt (Jiaolie fu) by Yang Xiong, it is written that bamboo fences were used to enclose Mount Sanzong. The commentary notes that the character for path is pronounced luo. Fu Qian explains that this refers to weaving bamboo to form a fence surrounding the mountain. Today, in the counties of Liquan and Tunliu, there is a Mount Sanzong, which means three mountain peaks gathered together. In the Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park (Shanglin fu) by Sima Xiangru, it is said that one ascends the high peaks of the three zong. The Zhengzitong (Correction of Characters) points out that the common variant form is mistakenly written as zong.
