According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun) and the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), it is pronounced zuo. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), when people of Chu visit one another and eat wheat, it is called zuo. According to the Regional Speech (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, fei-zuo means to eat. In the interior of Chu, when people visit one another and eat wheat gruel, it is called fei; in Chu, it is called zuo. In the suburbs of Chu and outside of Southern Chu, when people visit one another and eat an evening meal, it is sometimes called zuo, or sometimes it is written as a variant form. Between Qin and Jin, and in the region north of the Yellow River, it is called a variant form; this is Qin dialect.
