According to Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun) and Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), pronounced zuan. According to Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and Rhyme Anthology (Yunhui), pronounced zuan. According to Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it means to continue.
In the Classic of History (Shangshu), section Zhonghui's Announcement (Zhonghui zhi gao): To continue the old service of Yu. The commentary states: To continue the achievements of Yu and govern his former territories.
In the Classic of Poetry (Shijing), section Odes of Bin (Bin feng): Thereupon continuing his military achievements. The commentary states: Zuan means to continue. Note that the common form written with an additional component is incorrect. It is also used interchangeably with the character pronounced zuan (to compile). See the detailed note under that entry.
