According to the Extended Rhymes (Guangyun), it means to dampen. It also means to soak or to saturate. In the Book of Odes (Shijing), it is written: Already dampened and already satisfied. The commentary notes that this refers to being moistened. In the Book of Rites (Liji), it says: The rain dampened the clothing.
