Shiming: Zhang means to stretch. It refers to something stretched and set up over a bed.
Yupian: A curtained enclosure; something spread out to provide cover.
Erya, Shixun: A canopy is called a zhang.
Annotation: In the Jiangdong region, it is also referred to as a canopy.
Huainanzi, Daoying Xun: When the State of Qi marched against the State of Chu, a petty thief from the marketplace requested to display his minor skills for his lord, subsequently untying the curtain of the Lord of Qi in the night and presenting it to him.
It is also used interchangeably with the character for stretch (zhāng).
Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Annals of Emperor Gao: He remained to stay in a tent, drinking wine for three days.
Annotation: Zhang refers to a curtained enclosure.
