Pronounced yǐ. According to the Shuowen Jiezi, it refers to a large Gangmao, used to dispel demons and malevolent spirits. Composed of the Tapping radical and the phonetic component si. Note that the Biography of Wang Mang in the Book of Former Han (Qian Hanshu) and the Treatise on Carriages and Attire in the Book of Later Han (Hou Hanshu) do not mention the term Gangmao. It is also known as a name that is missing from the historical records. Xu Xuan pronounces it gǔhài, claiming it shares the same pronunciation as the character for change, but this is incorrect.
Additionally, according to the Jiyun, it is pronounced sì. The meaning is the same. The Shuowen Jiezi writes this character using the Tapping radical.
