Chou Collection, Upper Volume Radical: Mouth (kǒu) Ya Kangxi strokes: 7 Page 180, Entry 08 According to the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), the collected rhymes (Jiyun), the rhyme gathering (Yunhui), and the correct rhymes (Zhengyun), it is pronounced ya. According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it is the appearance of an open mouth. Han Yu's Poem on the Lunar Eclipse says, like a mouth opening ya ya. Also, han-ya refers to the appearance of a vast and empty mountain valley. According to the Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Sima Xiangru's Rhapsody on the Imperial Park (Shanglin Fu) states, han-ya huo-xia. The commentary states this refers to the form of a mountain valley. Ya is pronounced hu-jia. According to the Jade Chapters (Yupian), it describes a very vast and empty appearance. Ban Gu's Rhapsody on the Western Capital (Xidu Fu) says, ya the surrounding moats to form pools. According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun) and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), it is pronounced ya.
