Name of a state. The Shuowen Jiezi (Shuōwén Jiězì) states: A state south of the Han River. The Zuo Zhuan (Zuǒ Zhuàn), in the eleventh year of Duke Huan, records: "The people of Yun garrisoned at Pusao." The commentary adds: "The state of Yun, located southeast of Yunshe County in Jiangxia, had Yun City." Also, a place in the state of Wei. The Zuo Zhuan, in the eleventh year of Duke Ai, records: "Grand-uncle Ji of Wei died in Yun." Also a surname. Sometimes written in an abbreviated form. See the note for the preceding character.
