In the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun) and the Rhyme Meeting (Yunhui), the pronunciation is given as the fanqie of yú and lún, sounding the same as yún. Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen Jiezi) explains it as few. The character form is composed of the wrap (bāo) and two (èr) components, belonging to the category of indicative characters. Another interpretation is even.
