Zi Collection, Middle Volume. Radical: Person (rén). xìng. Kangxi stroke count: 10. Page number: page 107, number 31. According to the Broad Rhymes (Guangyun), as well as the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is the fanqie of xià and gěng, sounding like xìng. It means to obtain by luck or refers to imperial sycophants. It also rhymes as xū and líng, sounding like xīng. Ban Gu (Ban Gu) in the Essay on Go (Yizhi) wrote: Gambling depends on the throw and does not reside solely in the conduct of play. The excellent may meet with no success, while the inferior may have a stroke of luck. They crowd and jostle against one another, vying with momentum and power. Although there is a victor and a loser, it is not sufficient to be considered fair. Note: Regarding xìng, the rhyme books all record it in the shǎngshēng (rising tone). Only the Correct Character Mastery (Zhengzitong) speculatively added a qùshēng (departing tone) reading, which is not followed here.
