Erya (Erya): Explanations of Birds states: Xue is a mountain magpie. Guo commentary states: It resembles a magpie but has colorful markings, a long tail, and red beak and feet. The sub-commentary states: The mountain magpie is also known as Xue.
Shuowen (Shuowen): A bird that knows future events. The Explanations of Characters states: It can imitate the sounds of hawks and falcons, and it has a vicious nature. When members of its own kind meet, they fight.
Pronounced xue. A small dove.
Zhuangzi (Zhuangzi): Free and Easy Wandering states: The cicada and the small dove laugh at him. Also written in the variant form xue.
Pronounced wo. Also pronounced hua. Meaning same as above.
