In the Classic of History (Shujing), section Establishment of Government (Lizheng): attendants who are led. Commentary: those who attend and support the master.
In the Classic of Poetry (Shijing), section Greater Odes (Daya): like taking, like lifting. Commentary: when an object is on the ground, one lifts it with the hand.
In the Book of Rites (Liji), section Summary of the Rules of Propriety (Quli): when an elder leads one by the hand, one should support the elder's hand with both of one's own. Commentary: to lead by the hand means to pull along while walking.
Also means to separate or to alienate. In the Zuo Tradition (Zuozhuan), seventh year of Duke Xi: to summon those who are alienated through the use of ritual. In the Discourses of the States (Guoyu): the degree of moderation does not lead to alienation.
Also means to connect. In the History of the Former Han Dynasty (Qianhan shu), Treatise on Astronomy (Tianwen zhi): the ladle connects to the dragon's horn. Commentary: the ladle refers to the handle of the Northern Dipper.
