According to Tang Rhymes (Tangyun), Collection Rhymes (Jiyun), and Rhyme Compendium (Yunhui), the pronunciation is xue. According to Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is also xue.
In Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), it is defined as to slight. Another definition is to be overly familiar or to be irreverent.
History of the Former Han (Qianhan), Records of the Five Elements: When the yang and the rainbow peer through the center and focus on the exterior, and husband and wife are not respectful, this is called being overly familiar.
