According to the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced xi. According to the Analytical Dictionary of Characters (Shuowen), it means to speak in a hushed or confused manner. It is also used interchangeably with the character for practice or habit. In the Zhuangzi, Geng Sang Chu chapter, it is written: one who repeats this practice, providing nothing, forgets others, and by forgetting others, becomes a heavenly person. The commentary notes this is equivalent to being accustomed to something.
Also, according to the Extensive Dictionary of Rhymes (Guangyun) and the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced chi. It refers to speaking in an incorrect or improper manner. It also refers to whispering.
Additionally, according to the Jade Compendium (Yupian) and the Compilation of Rhymes (Jiyun), pronounced cha. The meaning is the same as the previous definitions.
