Jiyun (Compilation of Sounds and Meanings): Wang describes a state of being dispirited. It refers to the appearance of being dazed or blankly ignorant due to circumstances not meeting one's expectations. It also describes a state of being panicked and hurried.
Zhang Heng, Thinking Rhapsody (Si Fu): Dazed and not knowing which way to turn.
Also used interchangeably with the variant form wang.
