According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), the character 楲 refers to a vessel for waste. In the commentaries on the Rites of Zhou (Zhouguan) by Jia Kui, it is noted that 楲 refers to a tiger-shaped urinal. In ancient times, containers for urine and excrement were all referred to as tiger-shaped vessels. Additionally, the Jade Chapters (Yupian) defines it as a wooden device used to drain ponds.
