Pronounced tu (entering tone). The appearance of emerging.
According to the Dialect (Fangyan), in the regions of the Yangtze and Xiang rivers, to meet suddenly is called tu. Another source says it denotes the appearance of emerging.
According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), this is the original form of the character for sudden (tu).
According to the Correct Meaning Thoroughly Explained (Zhengzitong), this is a vulgar form of the character for family (jia). In the Comprehensive Study of the Six Writings (Liushutong), family is sometimes written as tu. It is composed of the radical for roof and the character for dog. In seal script, the character for dog shares the same meaning as the character for pig.
