Book of Rites (Liji), Monthly Ordinances (Yueling): In the final month of summer, burn off the weeds and let the water flow.
Commentary: To clear away means to press down and cut the weeds.
Rites of Zhou (Zhou li), Autumn Officials (Qiuguan), Ti Official: In the commentary by Zheng Xuan, the word for clear away is read like the word for a child's shaven head. In some books, it is written as a variant form (yi). Both refer to cutting grass; the character is formed based on categories.
