Chen Collection, Middle Volume Radical: Tree (mù) 桫 Kangxi Stroke Count: 11 Page 526, Entry 22 Pronounced suo. In the Tang Rhyme (Tangyun), it is described as suoluo, a type of tree. It grows in the Kunlun Mountains; the wood resembles the sugar palm (guanglang), and it produces flour. It is also written in a variant form (suo). According to the Record of Local Products of Yidu (Yidu Fangwu Ji), the sal tree (suoluo) grows in the Emei Mountains. It resembles the loquat tree, with several flowers clustered together in one chamber. It blooms in the spring; its leaves grow on the outside, and the flowers are concealed within. Some say that its roots cannot be transplanted, and therefore common people cannot use it as an ornamental plant.
