It refers to a white egret. According to the commentary on the section on birds in the Literary Expositor (Erya), the white egret is commonly known as lu-si, because the feathers on its head resemble silk threads. According to the Classic of Birds (Qin Jing), when the egret moves its beak, the feathers fold down.
