According to the Dialect (Fangyan) by Yang Xiong, "qu mo" means to remove, or to hold and take away. Another definition is to hold in the hands. According to the Tang Rimes (Tangyun), the pronunciation is qie; according to Collected Rimes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is qie. It means to hold or to ladle out. In the Hunting Rhapsody (Jiaolie Fu) by Yang Xiong, it is written as "qu ling xi." The commentary states this means to ladle out or take. Another pronunciation is qu. According to the Tang Rimes (Tangyun), the pronunciation is qi; according to Collected Rimes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is qi. It means to hold with both hands. According to Collected Rimes (Jiyun), the pronunciation is jie. It also means to hold. In the Eulogy for Guangcheng (Guangcheng Song) by Ma Rong of the Later Han Dynasty, it is written as "qu feng xi." The commentary states that "qu" is the ancient form of the character for "jie" (to rob or seize) and they are used interchangeably. It is also sometimes written in a variant form.
