According to the Extensive Rhymes (Guangyun), the pronunciation is qu. According to the Collected Rhymes (Jiyun), the Rhyme Assembly (Yunhui), and the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is qu.
According to the Explaining Graphs and Analyzing Characters (Shuowen), quchu refers to a coarse bamboo mat. According to Master Yang's Regional Dialects (Fangyan), a coarse bamboo mat is called quchu, or sometimes ququ.
It is also the name for a certain deformity. According to the Discourses of the States (Jinyu), one who is quchu cannot be made to bend over. Because a storage bin made of woven mats looks like a person with a swelling who cannot bend, it is used as a name for this condition.
Also, according to the Correct Rhymes (Zhengyun), the pronunciation is ju. According to the Book of Rites (Liji), in the month of late spring, prepare the curved supports, the qu, and the baskets. The commentary states that this is also written as ju, a tool for sericulture.
